Aristocrat Leisure Limited has reported a significant 16.8 percent increase in net profit after tax (NPAT), reaching AU$723.3 million (€444.8 million) during the first half of its fiscal year. This growth was driven by robust performance across its gaming, Pixel United, and interactive divisions. 

Aristocrat Gaming's North America operations achieved a profit of $22.3 million, despite a 9 percent decline in outright sales. The Rest of World segment saw a remarkable 29.1 percent increase in profit, totaling AU$179.3 million (€110.2 million), with Asia leading the growth due to strong game performance, particularly with recent releases like Dragon Link and Bao Zhu Zhao Fu. 

Overall, the Rest of World segment contributed AU$376.7 million (€231.7million) to the group's revenue, marking a 6.6 percent increase. 

In Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), retained its market-leading share, accounting for 38 percent of the market and selling 4,033 units.

The Philippine gaming industry has experienced a surge in the first quarter of 2024, with Gross Gaming Revenues (GGR) reaching a staggering Php81.7 billion (€1.39 billion). This represents an 18.54 percent increase from the same period last year, according to the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (). 

PAGCOR Chairman and CEO , expressed his satisfaction with the industry's performance, particularly highlighting the outstanding growth in the Electronic Games (E-Games) sector.  

“The E-Games revenue performance continues to exceed our projections, and this reflects how gaming technology and the proliferation of mobile devices is influencing not only our daily lives but our entertainment choices as well,” Tengco said. 

“With the way technology is constantly shaping our lives and the way we do business, and even the way we choose to be entertained, the future of gaming clearly lies in this sector,” Tengco added. 

The iGaming revenue soared to PHP 22.5 billion (€360.9 million), exceeding expectations and demonstrating the profound impact of gaming technology on entertainment choices. 

Tengco attributed the success of the iGaming sector to PAGCOR's improved regulatory policies and reduced fees, which have attracted both local and international gaming companies to invest in the Philippine gaming industry. 

“We are confident that with our new regulatory policies, more gaming companies both here and abroad will continue to look at business and investment opportunities in the Philippine gaming industry,” he said. 

While licensed casinos remain the biggest contributors to 1Q GGR, bringing in PHP 49.7 billion (€797.13 million), there has been a slight decrease compared to the previous year. PAGCOR-operated casinos and bingo operations also experienced dips in revenue, indicating the ongoing challenge posed by online platforms. 

Despite these minor setbacks, the industry's outlook remains positive, with first-quarter revenues surpassing 24 percent of the projected full-year GGR. The House of Representatives in the Netherlands plans to introduce a ban on all sorts of online advertising for local gambling operators as . A motion pushed by Michiel van Nispen, member of the House of Representatives for the Socialist Party (SP), has received enough support. A second motion for a total ban on online slot games at Dutch online casinos also passed with a tight majority of 77 votes.

The motions were part of a total of 114 motions out of which 14 were related to the field of online gambling. Since the legalisation of iGaming in the Netherlands in October 2021, gambling ads have faced ongoing pressure. A ban on gambling ads on TV, radio, and outdoor media was previously adopted in July 2023. This ban excluded online ads although strict rules have been put in place for affiliate companies and influencers imposing a minimum age of 24 years for their target audience.

The adopted motions from Van Nispen follow after comparable motions by in February. Boswijk called for a complete ban on gambling ads but did not receive enough support. With an additional ban on gambling related ads on the internet this would theoretically lead to the same outcome as Boswijk’s proposal as all other media channels have already been banned from gambling ads.

Online slots are considered as very high risk casino games by the MP as they “don’t provide any control over the outcome of a round making players prone to continuous play and loss chasing behaviour”.

With 79 votes, the motion seeking to ban slots in the gambling lobbies of Dutch online casinos was also won by Van Nispen. Slot games represent the most sought after online gaming product among Dutch gamblers followed by sports betting.

The international segment, which includes markets like Italy, Spain, Brazil, India, and others, reported a revenue of $797 million, up 5 percent year-on-year. The segment also saw a 20 percent growth in adjusted EBITDA. However, the sports betting revenue in this segment declined by 12 percent year-on-year, despite an 8 percent increase in iGaming revenue.

In Australia, sports betting stakes were down 19 percent, and sportsbook revenue decreased by 6 percent to $329 million. The adjusted EBITDA remained relatively stagnant at $83 million.

When excluding the US, the combined results from Australia, UK, Ireland, and the international segment amounted to a revenue of $1.99 billion, up 16 percent year-on-year, with adjusted EBITDA growth of 20 percent, totalling $488 million.

The Alabama State Senate has been experiencing a demise of a significant push to legalize various forms of gambling, including a state lottery. Despite the House of Representatives passing House Bills 151 and 152 with a substantial majority, the Senate did not approve the amended versions before the legislative session’s conclusion.

The proposed legislation aimed to legalize an education state lottery, electronic games of chance, raffles, and paper bingo at seven dog racing or bingo locations statewide. It would have also allowed residents to participate in national lotteries such as Mega Million and Powerball. However, tables, cards, dice, and live dealers would have remained prohibited.

The bills’ authors, Rep. Russell Blackshear and Sen. Greg Albritton, who also sponsored them in the Senate, were unable to break Alabama’s 25-year deadlock on . The last time Alabama voted on gaming, albeit unsuccessfully, was in 1999.

During a Senate test session, the two amended measures fell just one vote short of the required 21 for approval. A significant point of contention was the Senate amendments introduced in March.
