About BeGambleAware

Establishment and Mission

GambleAware, an independent charity whose aim is to keep people safe from gambling dangers, administers, and funds BeGambleAware.

BeGambleAware is an organisation that provides information to assist players in making better gaming decisions. The agency aids gamers in learning more about what safer gambling entails, as well as understanding and recognising the risks of gambling and directing them to where they can get additional information, assistance, and support if needed.

GambleAware is a grant-making, independent charity that commissions prevention and treatment services in England, Scotland, and Wales in collaboration with specialist organizations and authorities, including the NHS, in three areas:

  • Creating the National Gambling Treatment Service (NGTS).
  • Creating national public health initiatives and offering practical assistance to local services.
  • Commissioning research and assessment to improve our understanding of preventative strategies.

GambleAware is wholly independent and has a framework agreement with the Gambling Commission to deliver the National Strategy to Reduce Gambling Harms within the context of arrangements based on voluntary donations from the gambling industry. It is regulated by the Charity Commission for England and Wales and the Scottish Charity Regulator.

Aid in understanding risks related to gambling

To help young people understand the risks of gambling, GambleAware has created materials for schools and youth workers. Aside from that, the company offers tools to help those who operate in advise and support settings deal with gambling-related harms. GambleAware has been collaborating with partners to provide tools aiding health and social care professionals better understand gambling disorders.

The organisation has also created guidelines and resources to assist researchers in completing the research projects that they sponsor, as well as information on their review procedures.

BeGambleAware supports effective, evidence-based, high-quality gambling harms support services by utilising best-practice parts of commissioning, including a needs assessment, program design, and outcome reporting. The National Gambling Treatment Service also offers gamblers the option to speak one-on-one with an advisor for discreet counsel, information, and emotional support through phone or chat.

SiGMA and BeGambleAware

SiGMA strongly encourages BeGambleAware in offering free, confidential help and support to anyone who’s worried about their or someone else’s gambling habits. Similarly to SiGMA, GambleAware hosts yearly educational conferences that allow viewers to hear from members of the lived experience community as well as individuals working in the research, prevention, and treatment sectors in the United Kingdom to discuss their efforts and avoid gambling harm.

A key goal for both SiGMA and BeGambleAware is to ensure that the online gambling sector is inherently sustainable, allowing customers to participate in a safe and enjoyable gambling experience. SiGMA and BeGambleAware have agreed to maintain their support and work together in the future.
