Could Switzerland maintain their momentum after that shock win over France? Could England take a step closer to bringing it home? The EUROs Quarter Finals are upon us – let’s take a closer look at each match up
The Round of 16 has finally come to an end – and what a round that was! There were certainly some happy sports betting bookmakers as the tournament favourites France were surprisingly knocked out by underdogs Switzerland on penalties, the Netherlands suffered defeat at the hands of Czech Republic and England cruised past Germany in a highly intense match.
Next up is the quarter finals! – Let’s take a look at the match-ups happening this weekend!
Switzerland vs Spain
Switzerland – 26/5, Draw – 29/10, Spain – 13/19
Switzerland overcame favourites in France in a great match that saw the Swiss fight back from 3-1 down to equalise in the 90th minute and go all the way to win on penalties. The Swiss will go into the match against a Spain side as underdogs, even though the Spanish struggled to get passed a Croatian side that was much weaker than the team that made the World Cup final a few years ago.
Could the Swiss cause another upset or will the Spanish turn on the style and do what the world champions failed to do?
Italy vs Belgium
Italy – 28/11, Draw – 28/13, Belgium – 19/13
Certainly the tie that catches any football fans eyes. Italy and Belgium have both been pretty solid this EUROs and its quite difficult to pick out a clear favourite. Italy are definitely a tough side to break down but Belgium has the talent that could unlock the Italians stubborn defence.
Italy might have the edge over their opponents as Belgium sweat over the fitness of star players – Eden Hazard & Kevin de Bruyne but their squad depth still makes them a threat even if those two miss out.
It’s difficult to pick a certain winner in this match but it’s certainly the match of the quarter finals!
Czech Republic vs Denmark
Czech Republic 3/1, Draw 23/10, Denmark 6/5
The Czechs will be coming into this game full of confidence after beating 10 men Netherlands with ease. However, the Danish smashed through the Welsh 4-0 and the players have the added motivation to win for their team mate Christian Eriksen who suffered an unfortunate incident at the beginning of the tournament.
This could definitely be an entertaining game with both teams playing attacking football. Again, there’s no clear favourite and I will definitely be watching this game as I expect both teams give it their all for a historic semi final appearance.
Ukraine vs England
Ukraine 9/1, Draw 7/2, England 5/11
England has just come off an impressive win over the Germans, the first since their World Cup win in 1966. There is a massive hype around the English side as they finally look like a team rather than past tournaments, HOWEVER, the English are unpredictable.
Ukraine will be smelling blood vs England as, in the past, England have cracked under pressure especially when they are the favourites. Just like last EUROs vs Iceland. England should make easy work of Ukraine but this is football and nothing is certain. I still believe Ukraine are an impressive side and could cause England major problems!
