For the first time, MGA’s top job will be filled through a public call and not directly appointed by a Minister

The Malta Gaming Authority issued a call to the public for the role of CEO. Silvio Schembri, Economy Minister, (seen below speaking at SiGMA Europe) said this was the first time that a public call had been issued for this position.

“This is the first time that the highest post within the authority will be filled after a public call, thus this enhances the transparency and credibility at which the CEO of the authority will be appointed,”

He went on to elaborate that such a public call highlights the autonomy of key institutions in Malta.

SilvioPrevious CEO, Heathcliff Farrugia resigned this October when he made an internal announcement to staff that he will not be renewing his contract with the MGA.

His right-hand man, Karl Brincat Peplow, who joined the MGA in 2009 as systems and financial auditor, also resigned this October. The two are expected to set up a joint venture.

In addition to speaking at a number of SiGMA conferences over the years, Heathcliff Farrugia was featured in the 2019 Spring issue of SiGMA Magazine, read the issue here.

Application for this post close on Monday 4th January at noon.
