State lawmakers are moving forward with a bill to bring sports betting to college football

Phil MurphyAfter three years of legalized sports betting in New Jersey, lawmakers have announced taking steps to lift the remaining ban of the practice in college football. Both the betting on college teams from New Jersey as well as betting on teams visiting the state is prohibited so far, leaving a major betting sector unreaped.

Sports betting was first introduced to New Jersey via a bill signed by Governor Phil Murphy in June 2018. The current bill expanding the practice will be open to a public vote, as lawmakers state the approval of the residents to be a vital condition to pass the law.

If the bill passes the full Assembly, Governor Murphy will sign the expansion. The sports betting industry has largely grown during the pandemic, generating a multi-billion Dollar revenue.
