Operators gain backing from Italian Courts

A number of operators headed to the Mediterranean to launch an appeal at the Italian court regarding the extensions for their licences that are due to expire

Fortunately, the operators were in luck as the Lazio TAR Administrative Court disagreed with the ADM Customs and Monopolies Agency, Italy’s gambling regulator and those who declined to authorise licence extensions.

Operators such as Betway, Nexigames, Snaitech and Sportpesa – which are currently under ITALIAinvestigation over money laundering claims, all filed proposals regarding the termination of their licence – coming to an end in October.

Therefore, the ADM is obliged to extend each licence by a year, becoming effective immediately. Furthermore, the Court also ruled that the government will not be allowed to withhold any licence extensions regardless of the potential reforms.

The Court also recommended that, with the new Budget Law set to be signed at the end of the year, the government should include clear conditions for online gambling adjustments.
