Suspect behind €65 million illegal gambling operations arrested in Thailand

Thai police apprehended and deported a Chinese national behind a THB2.5 billion (€65 million) gambling website.

Local media reported that the Immigration Bureau of Thailand confirmed the arrest and deportation of the suspect identified as Huang, a 32-year-old suspect.

Huang was taken into custody following a cooperation request from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Southeast Asian country.

China’s hunt for the suspect

According to the Chinese Embassy, Huang entered Thailand by utilizing a Cambodian passport.

The suspect was implicated in the promotion of the illicit gambling platform allegedly operated by a syndicate group called Zhonghe.

The group is accused of operating a football gambling platform outside of mainland China and encouraging Chinese nationals to take part in illegal gambling.

An arrest warrant was issued against Huang in December 2023. 

Based on reports, victims were enticed to participate in sports betting and operated between March 2022 and April 2023.
