According to the latest results of the 2005 review of the Gambling Act, UK ministers are said to be targeting sports bettors, and the report says they will regulate VIP schemes that bettors use to entice gambling on their sites. The government said such practices were “immoral” and encouraged gambling.
A DCMS spokesperson said: “In the consultation on the Gambling Act Review, which concluded in March, we are carefully considering responses that provide evidence and insights, including those related to advertising practices.”
So far, the government is expected to release a white paper with a conclusion later this year, and there are only signs that this will be enforced, as the Ministry of Digital, Culture, Media and Sports (DCMS) has neither ruled out nor confirmed that the government will ban the VIP programme.
The former leader of Tory, Sir Iain Duncan Smith, admitted that the ban on VIP schemes has already been delayed and is only being used to induce people to bet on more “terrible abuse, forcing people into debt.”
The Gambling and Gambling Council said that the bill was passed and that “BGC, in cooperation with the Gambling Commission, has already taken strict action against VIP accounts, including the introduction of a strict new code of conduct, which has led to a 70% drop in the number of registered players.” If this is the case, we believe that this measure will be severe. The council noted that the number of VIP accounts has already fallen by 70% due to the tough measures taken by regulators last year.
The conclusion from media reports claims that the British ministers have already reached an agreement on this decision.
