Plan is to incentivise Australians to get the jab
Scott Morrison, Prime Minister of Australia, has set forth a ploy to get Australians to take the COVID-19 jab. In a joined force attempt with Tabcorp, the state will run a lottery for those vaccinated aiming to get the unvexed to get the vaccine.
This tactic will be used in a bid to reach the 80% target in mind. Peter Dutton, the defense minister has previously backed the idea of a vaccine lottery stating that this is a great strategy for those unvaccinated to get the dose.
Employing more than 5,000 individuals, Tabcorp is Australia’s largest gambling company provider of lotteries, wagering and gaming products.
The opposition leader has also proposed an AU$300 payment for every person fully vaccinated by December. Morrison argues that this plan will cost Australia’s government an extra $6bn and declares that a lottery is a more viable option “The government has got no issues with incentives – what we have is a problem with bad policy.”
The design of the lottery is not up to Tabcorp but will be discussed by senior government officials. “We are not proceeding with any arrangement like that with Tabcorp,” Morrison remarked.
Australia is joining other countries which have put this plan of recovery forward. US, Hong Kong and Poland are among the few implementing this technique as a scheme of action.
This morning the Prime Minister has also announced that Moderna has been given provisional approval by the medicine’s regulator to join Pfizer and AstraZeneca in Australia’s vaccine armory.
