'Affirms rightful ownership': Baazi Games welcomes court ruling on infringing domains

Written by Rajashree Seal

Days after the Delhi High Court issued a temporary injunction against multiple gambling websites, including BaaziAdda and Baazi247, Baazi Games welcomed the decision, stating that it reinforces its rightful ownership of trademarks and protects its brand from misuse.

Speaking on the Court’s decision, a Baazi Games spokesperson told SiGMA World, “We appreciate the Court’s recognition of Baazi Games as a leading skill gaming brand in India. The ruling also affirms our rightful ownership of all necessary trademarks and has initiated action against entities deliberately misusing our brand names and reputation for their benefits.”

Court’s findings and action

The Delhi High Court had restrained several gambling websites from using domain names that infringe on the trademarks of Moonshine Technology Private Limited, the parent company of Baazi Group. Additionally, the Court directed domain name registrars (DNRs) such as GoDaddy and Namecheap to suspend access to these domains and disclose ownership details.

The ruling followed a trademark infringement suit filed by Baazi Group, which alleged that rogue gambling websites were engaging in cyber-squatting and using advanced search engine optimisation (SEO) techniques to divert traffic to their platforms. The Court noted that these websites, despite having no physical presence in India, were promoting and offering prohibited gambling and betting services.

The Court also took into account multiple advisories issued by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, which strictly prohibit the promotion and endorsement of online gambling platforms in India.

Baazi Group was represented by Senior Advocate Raj Shekhar Rao, along with legal counsels Subhash Bhutoria, Anuja Negi, and Ayesha Khan of LAW SB.

Stand against brand misuse

Moonshine Technology Pvt. Ltd. informed the Court that it has been using the Baazi trademark since 2014 and that several infringing websites, including BaaziAdda, Baazi247, Baazi365, and LotusBaazi, were unlawfully capitalising on its brand identity. The company highlighted that its PokerBaazi platform has a strong digital presence, with over 2 million YouTube subscribers and 400,000 followers across Meta platforms.

Justice Mini Pushkarna, in her ruling, determined that a prima facie case for granting an ex-parte ad-interim injunction had been established, stating that the balance of convenience favoured Moonshine Technology and that failing to grant the injunction would cause irreparable harm.

The matter is scheduled for its next hearing on 28 July 2025.
