The 2024 Asian Esports Games has officially named Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) as its exclusive women’s esports title. Organised by the Thailand Esports Federation (TESF) and sanctioned by the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF), the tournament will take place from 25th to 27th November in Bangkok, Thailand.

This is a landmark moment for women’s esports with 20 country teams from the Middle East and Asia participating. The tournament also sees new comers from Nepal, Mongolia, and Tajikistan.

Strong representation across Asia and the Middle East

The MLBB women‘s competition during the Asian Esports Games will include a competitive mix of teams, indicating the expansion of inclusivity in the esports market. China’s women’s team will play a world-level esports tournament in Southeast Asia for the very first time, showcasing the elevated level of participation of female gamers on an international stage.

According to the AESF, the goal of this initiative is to set a new standard for diversity in women’s esports. The tournament aims to provide greater competitive opportunities for female players and expand the presence of women’s esports across the region.

Growing recognition for MLBB Esports

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is further entrenching its presence in the global esports industry. In June 2024, MOONTON Games expanded its current cooperation with Qiddiya, securing its esports framework on a global level.

In October 2024, MLBB was announced as a headline title of the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, which will be hosted in Bangkok. This further increases the game’s impact in the esports sector.

Alongside MLBB, the Asian Esports Games will feature two other major mobile esports titles: eFootball Mobile (open category) and Arena of Valor (open category). These tournaments will attract top esports talent from across the continent, increasing the event’s visibility and global reach.

Commitment to women’s Esports

MOONTON Games and AESF continue to invest in expanding opportunities for female esports players. Ray Ng, Head of Esports Ecosystems at MOONTON Games, emphasised the company’s dedication to inclusivity.

“The representation of 20 regions in the MLBB women’s tournament exemplifies our commitment to diversity and the dedication of AESF and TESF in creating a competitive platform that encourages inclusivity globally,” Ng stated.

With more national federations supporting women’s esports, the MLBB women’s tournament at the Asian Esports Games is set to be a groundbreaking event in competitive gaming.
