Boyd Gaming aims to replace Joker’s Wild with new Henderson Casino

Written by Ansh Pandey

Boyd Gaming has formally begun the construction of a new casino and entertainment center in Henderson, Nevada. The long-standing Joker’s Wild Casino will be replaced by the new Cadence Crossing Casino, which will be situated along Boulder Highway and is intended to serve the expanding Cadence master-planned community.

On 3 April 2025, a novel ceremony was performed to officially launch the project. Several esteemed people attended the occasion, including Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero, Chief Operating Officer Ted Bogich, President and Chief Executive Keith Smith, Executive Vice President of Operations Steve Schutte, and Executive Chairman Marianne Johnson of Boyd Gaming.

Reportedly, the project is part of Boyd Gaming’s 50th-anniversary celebrations and represents the company’s first ground-up casino development in over two decades. According to Steve Schutte, Cadence Crossing is designed to meet the needs of the fast-growing Cadence neighbourhood, which includes around 12,000 homes.

Casino aims to attract locals

The new casino is anticipated to be a big attraction for locals despite its modest size in comparison to the resorts on the Las Vegas Strip. A 10,000-square-foot gaming floor with about 450 slot machines will be part of the establishment. There will also be a range of food and drink options, however, the exact locations have not yet been disclosed.

Until Cadence Crossing is finished, Joker’s Wild Casino will remain open. After that, it will be demolished to create more parking. The property will span around 50,000 square feet and will be built in phases in line with the continued expansion of the surrounding community. Long-term plans include the addition of a hotel and further amenities as demand increases.

The development forms part of Boyd’s wider $100 million capital investment strategy, which also includes refurbishment work at one of the company’s properties outside Nevada.

Linked to broader growth agenda

During her speech at the ceremony, Mayor Romero praised the development, highlighting how it aligns with the city’s ongoing efforts to revitalize Boulder Highway. The area is currently undergoing a $170 million infrastructure upgrade that includes road improvements and community enhancements.

As Boulder Highway nears its 100th birthday, significant infrastructural improvements are already under way. Boyd Gaming’s initiative is seen by city officials as an important component of the neighborhood’s larger change, showing an increasing level of investment in the future of the area.

Although precise job numbers have not been made public, the business stated that a much larger staff than Joker’s Wild will be supported by the new casino. Additionally, information about the development of jobs tied to construction was not provided.

Boyd Gaming’s dedication to catering to the local market will be strengthened when Cadence Crossing is finished and added to its already-established portfolio in Southern Nevada, which also includes Sam’s Town and the now-closed Eastside Cannery.
