The Province of Buenos Aires has officially launched a call for bids to modernise seven land-based casinos. The resolution was signed by Gonzalo Atanasof, president of the Provincial Lottery and Casino Institute (IPLyC), marking a major step towards updating gambling infrastructure in the region.
The seven casinos involved—located in Necochea, Miramar, Tandil, Sasso, Hermitage, Mar de Ajó, and Sierra de la Ventana—have so far been operating under extended concessions. One company, Boldt S.A., currently operates six of them, with extensions valid until 31 December 2025 or until new contracts are signed.
“This is a fundamental step toward the modernisation and competitiveness of the Province’s casinos, based on a commitment made jointly with the Province,” Atanasof said in an official statement.
According to the IPLyC, the new tender aims to secure investments in building improvements, upgraded gaming rooms, modern slot machine offerings, and improved dining and entertainment facilities throughout the year.
“We are not only seeking to guarantee the continuity of our employees and improve their working conditions, but also to invest in ways that will help capitalize on the tourism and entertainment potential of each venue,” Atanasof added.
The contracts will cover a 20-year operating period, with an option for a one-year extension. The opening of the bidding envelopes is scheduled for 8 July 2025 at 12 noon at the Lottery and Casino Institute’s headquarters in La Plata.
The bidding process primarily targets existing operators currently working under temporary extensions. The province has indicated that this move is not intended to bring in entirely new operators, but rather to strengthen commitments from current licence holders and improve the value they bring to the local economy.
While the Province of Buenos Aires continues to expand its land-based gambling sector, the City of Buenos Aires is taking a different approach. In 2024, the city announced a halt on issuing new online casino licences due to concerns over underage gambling and the need for stronger player protection. However, both jurisdictions operate independently and are responsible for their own gambling regulations.
