Call of Duty League stage 2 2021 preview

Activision Blizzard has introduced several changes to the format and structure of the Call of Duty League 2021

After the COVID pandemic hit in 2020, Call of Duty esports matches had to shift online, much like the rest of the industry. Despite the shift to an online format, the interest in the league did not wane. In fact, the league says last year’s Grand Finals was the most-watched Call of Duty match ever with a peak of 330 thousand viewers. But which teams look the best for CDL Stage 2?

Call of DutyGames will be played on PC and the CDL has adopted a 4v4 structure for this year. The new 2021 format also sees Call of Duty League feature five major stages in the year. Every game matters as teams earn points for their wins.

CDL 2021 Stage 2 Format

CDL Stage 2 kicks off on March 18 and comes to a close on April 4, 2021. There are 12 teams in the league and they form two groups of six teams each. The teams play in a round-robin format where each one plays five games and the final standings determine the Major seeding.

Call of Duty League Favorites

Atlanta FaZe and Dallas Empire are two of the strongest teams in the Call of Duty League 2021. True to their rankings, the two teams won their respective groups in Stage 1. Dallas Empire 1 went 4-1 while Atlanta FaZe won all of its games and sits pretty with a 5-0 score.

However, despite their strong performances, the teams face stiff competition from the likes of OpTiC Chicago, Los Angeles Thieves and New York Subliners. Stage 2 is a hard reset for all teams and an opportunity for many to catch up.

Call of Duty League’s format requires teams to take each match seriously. The top eight teams at the end of the season will earn a spot in the playoffs of the $500 tournament. For now, Atlanta FaZe leads the pack with 50 CDL points but others are close behind. CDL Stage 2 begins next week on March 18.
