Chairman Fujiki declares war on politicians supporting casino in Yokohama IR

Political war declared on all local politicians supporting IR development in the city as Fujiki is opposed to hosting a casino in Yokohama

90-year-old business mogul, Yukio Fujiki, Chairman of the Yokohama Port Harbor Resort Association and former Chairman of the Yokohama Harbor Transport Association, yesterday effectively declared political war on all local politicians who are supporting the IR development in the city in insubordination of the will of the public majority.

Yokohama IRHe has made it clear that he would not support any candidate who supports integrated resorts in the Yokohama mayoral elections next summer.

Fujiki expressed, “I want to kill those House of Representatives members that come from Yokohama and are in favor of casinos.’

According to Asia Gaming Brief, Fujiki didn’t spare the Yokohama-based representative Yoshihide Suga, who currently serves as the Prime Minister of the nation from criticism and stated, “That person is a traveler. Even if he was born in Yokohama and grew up in Yokohama, he is like a traveler. I’m a villager. I have to take responsibility.”

Fujiki also cited the betrayal of Yokohama Mayor Fumiko Hayashi to the local residents by running as a candidate in 2017, stating that she was a “blank slate” on IR developments and then after the election revealing herself as strongly in favor. “Her face is smeared with mud,”.

According to Asia Gaming Brief, “Fujiki had been a long-time political supporter of both Prime Minister Suga and Mayor Hayashi, but he has been adamantly opposed to hosting a casino in the city and they became insistent advocates, driving a wedge between them.”

Fujiki is dubbed as the “Don of Yokohama” because of his network of contacts and his wide influence in the political and business world.

The Don of Yokohama announced that the Yokohama Harbor Resort Association was previously not engaged in political action but as from today, will be moving forward.

Back in November, SiGMA News reported that 200,000 signatures had been collected from locals in referendum proposals as part of rising opposition to Yokohama IR.
