Clandestine horse racing in Argentina halted by Lotería Chaqueña

The Board of Directors of Lotería Chaqueña explained that security measures needed to prevent further spreading of the virus are not met

Lotería Chaqueña announced that given the current  health crisis of COVID-19, horse racing throughout the province is prohibited. The prohibition took place in order to stop conglomerations of individuals in one place as means of a preventative measure.

The Lottery started working with the Chaco Police to prohibit these types of races. Two procedures were carried out over the past weekend, where 22 people were arrested and ten horses seized.

After an investigation was carried out by the members of the Metropolitan Rural Operations Division, a high number of individuals were found taking part in these races.

The momentary prohibition of these types of activities not only affects horse racing, but also other recreational activities like bingos.

The Board of Directors of Lotería Chaqueña explained that given the current pandemic situation in these activities there aren’t, the sanitary and security measures needed to prevent further spreading of the virus.

Activities like this, and other games of chance taking place without the control and authorisation needed by the Lotería Chaqueña, constitute a crime stipulated in the Argentinean Penal Code (Art. 301 Bis), with possible three to six years imprisonment.
