anti corruption In connection to a tennis match fixing investigation, the Swedish police arrested five people on the 14th of April.

The national Operations Department carried out the arrests following an ongoing investigation by its anti-corruption group. Although the amount of money involved has not been revealed the alleged match-fixing is said to involve substantial sums.

This has been seen as a ‘significant threat’ to sports.

Stefan Erkensjö of NOA’s anti-corruption group said “We can see that all sports risk being affected by match-fixing, and we work intensively against this through, among other things, preventive efforts and collaboration at several different levels to access the problem.”

This is not the first time the ITIA took action, this year the body banned ten players from playing after several investigations took place. This week the agency applied a lifetime ban on the Argentinian tennis player Franco Feitt, after admitting to nine counts of match-fixing. Another ban was handed out to Barbora Palcatova after being found to have been involved in match-fixing.
