DAZN to buy ELEVEN sports media business, expand global reach

DAZN Group, a global sports platform, is expanding its global reach with the acquisition of ELEVEN Group’s global sports media business.

The company said the deal expands its capabilities in the live sports streaming sector and establishes DAZN as a leader in this space.

Once completed, the group will be a broadcaster of top football leagues in Portugal and Belgium. It will also cement the company’s position in Italy and Spain. ELEVEN also has a presence in Taiwan and other Southeast Asian markets, giving it a greater foothold in the region.

DAZN said the purchase will strengthen the business and will drive economies of scale.

DAZN eyes new markets

Shay Segev, CEO, DAZN Group said: “It is a big step forward in our mission to be the leading global sports platform.

“DAZN has invested in building a revolutionary digital sports platform, where fans can enjoy the full range of interactive sports entertainment. We are looking forward to expanding these capabilities to new markets as well as leveraging ELEVEN’s capabilities in DAZN.”

Marc Watson, CEO Eleven Group, said: “We see DAZN as the future of digital sports broadcasting and the ideal home for ELEVEN.”

Upon completion of the deal, Andrea Radrizzani, ELEVEN founder, will join DAZN’s board as an executive director and will support business development. The deal is subject to anti-trust review, therefore the completion date remains unknown.

The company gave no details on purchase price.

DAZN said the acquisition of ELEVEN’s media business Team Whistle will allow it to reach younger audiences and expand its fan engagement capabilities.

Team Whistle is ranked within the top ten US media sports properties on ComScore with over 700 million followers across its channels. It also has a growing distribution network that generates around five billion views per month across social platforms.
