Football legend Didier Drogba has voiced his support for responsible gaming, emphasising the importance of enjoying sports betting safely. As the MLB brand ambassador in Turkey, Drogba highlighted the partnership’s efforts to promote fun and regulated gaming practices with SiGMA TV.
“It’s a great collaboration,” Drogba said. “We’re trying to promote and help people to play and to have fun, but responsibly. It’s possible to have fun but to play responsibly, and that’s what we are trying to promote and push.”
Drogba acknowledged that sports betting provides fans with a way to connect with sports, even if they are not athletes themselves. “Not everybody can play, but as a person, everybody can get involved in guessing the results into such things. That’s what we do at home,” he added. He stressed the importance of partnerships that ensure betting activities are regulated, ensuring safer engagement for participants.
Supporting African talent
Drogba also reflected on his dedication to supporting African talent in professional sports. He pointed out the increasing presence of African players in top football teams worldwide.
“When you look at all the big teams, you have African players performing at the highest level,” Drogba said. He stressed the need to build platforms that enable African talents to develop and succeed abroad.
Giving back to the community
The former Chelsea star also spoke about his long-standing commitment to philanthropy. Drogba has supported various charitable initiatives since 2007, including building schools and medical facilities.
“We improved, we developed, we grew and we built a clinic, we built some schools,” he said. “It’s important to give back to society because I’ve been lucky to leave my country, go abroad, learn, develop my career, and also be a person.” Drogba credited his upbringing for shaping his dedication to giving back. “It’s important for me, in my culture and the way my parents educated me, to give back to the communities,” he explained.
