Dominican Republic expected to return to casino activities

Five months of casino shut down has strongly affected the casino activities sector and brought about economic crisis

This week, a safety and hygiene protocol to ensure Covid-19 free were presented by The Dominican Association of Casinos Games, providing a complete framework for 56 casinos operating in the country to return the activities on August 24th with compliance with National authorities’ requests. 

The casino activities sector in Dominican Republic has been closed for almost 5 months, and according to the president of the Association, David Moniz, the time inoperative was used to develop a full protocol which encompasses a list of measurements to ensure no contamination of COVID-19 in the casinos premises.

The Casino activities sector plays an important role in the country’s economy, generating a huge amount of jobs and significant amount in revenue for public coffers, however, almost five months of shut down has strongly affected the sector and the economic crisis.

The sector believes it is time to return the activities and contribute with the country’s economic recovery. According to Moniz, the 56 casinos operating in Dominican Republic contribute to more than 25,000 families and generate 70 million pesos per month to public coffers, besides a significant contribution to the Tourism’s sector with over 200 million in revenue each month. 

The President of the Association also explained that the sector has complied with all rules proposed by Dominican Republic and they will collaborate with the national government in all aspects necessary as well as contribute to the economic and social recovery.  

“We thank the new authorities for their support in this new stage of our sector, and at the same time we offer all our support and collaboration to recover from the crisis. Together, the public sector, the private sector and the Dominican people, we will overcome this and other crises,” declared Moniz to Yogonet Gaming News.
