The move will require players to open two separate accounts for lottery and online sports betting, as from March 2021

The online sports betting players and operators will need to follow the new Remote Gambling Act whereas the current Gambling Act will deal with Lotto, Eurojackpot, Lucky Day and scratch cards.

The Gambling Act has been postponed twice, with the date now set at 1st March 2021. Previously, the planned Sander Dekkerdate for the Act to come into effect was that of 1st July 2019 but it was later moved to November 2019 and, most recently, to September 2020.

In a letter addressed to the lower house of the Dutch parliament, Minister for Legal Protection, Sander Dekker (left), noted that the postponement was because they wanted to give players and operators the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the new law and its procedures, saying that “this creates more space for all parties involved to prepare for the new law coming into effect.’.
