Dutch regulator unveils three agencies to receive gambling addiction fund

Dutch regulator, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), selects three agencies who will receive funds going towards tackling gambling addiction

The Netherlands gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) have finalised which agencies will receive their new gambling addiction prevention fund Verslavingspreventiefonds (VPF).

The Verslavingspreventiefonds (VPF) will be formed in accordance to the country’s Remote Gambling Act and will launch on 1 April this year. This act aims to:

  1. Facilitate treatment of gambling addictions anonymously
  2. Curate a national support service for those affected by problem gambling
  3. Support research into gambling addiction prevention and treatment

The three chosen agencies to benefit from the fund are The National Healthcare Institute, ZonMw and Human Assistance Network for Daily Support (HANDS).

HANDS will form part of the motion to create a national support service for those affected by gambling addiction. This service is set to launch from 1 October 2021.

Government body ZonMw responsible for funding health research will target gambling addiction research.

The National Healthcare Institute will offer an anonymous online treatment service to problem gamblers.
