Dutch regulator inaugurating regulated iGaming activity with 28 confirmed applications

The 1st of October will see these 28 companies launching their online gaming services to local punters

Dutch Gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit revealed that 28 applications have been received so far from operators looking to apply for a licence to enter the online gaming market.

Operators who have met all the criteria when it comes to conditions put forward will be given the green light to launch their services for local punters starting from 1st October. This comes with a licensing fee of €48,000 ($57,700). The Ksa has confirmed that all 28 application have paid this fee.

Renee René Jansen, chairman of the board of the Ksa said “The intention of the law is to channel players from illegal providers to legally reliable providers. With this number of applications, I trust that there will soon be a sufficiently attractive and varied offer to achieve this objective.”

The portion of the taxes collected from these firms is to be used in an Addiction Prevention Fund.

On April 1st 2021 a legislation that would see iGaming operators being regulated passed and was put into effect this is referred to as Koa or The Remote Gambling Act.

With the country seeing a rise in annual land-based gaming taxes of 12.3%, amounting to €8.2 million ($9.7 million), online gaming could be making waves next.
