Dutch State Lottery ordered to stop using athletes for promotion

Dutch gambling regulator, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has ordered the State Lottery to eliminate gambling advertisements using professional football players and athletes

The KSA has been on the hunt since the EURO competition has been going on. They insist that this is being done to ensure the future and safety of young people. The regulator claimed that this form of advertising comes with the glamorisation and sensationalisation of gambling, therefore making it a higher risk.

‘The regulator’s decision to ban the use of advertisements using football players stands as paramount in protecting vulnerable groups from the risk of developing gambling addictions.’

The KSA made this decision following gambling advertisements on professional athletes broadcasting on several channels. Advertising from the State Lottery no longer shows football players, and the KSA now made the decision public after a delay in legal deadlines.
