Esports streaming expected to lead the way in global gambling

The esports streaming sector is expected to lead the way in growth within the global gambling sector

Whilst gambling itself has existed for as long as we can remember, the esports scene is relatively young – the esports gambling sector even more so! Yet, the streaming industry has a value of over $150 billion. It is also one of the fastest-growing segments of the global gambling sector. In fact, the number of online streamers of online games is expected to rise to one billion in 2025.

Projected growth

The market is projected to reach $3.5 billion by 2025. This would be an increase of $1.4 billion from 2021 where the total stands at $2.1 billion. The Asia-Pacific region makes up the bulk of the viewership at 50% of the audience. The revenue from competitive games is forecasted to reach $1.1 billion by the end of 2021, and the total audience is expected to grow to 474 million, according to market researcher Newzoo. Latina America is a hotspot for growth with more than 130 million spectators coming up.

Dota 2 esports

A separate report from Juniper Research calculated that esports and game streaming will bring in $2.1 billion in 2021 alone, and grow to $3.5 billion by 2025. The report, titled ‘2021 Global Report and Live Streaming Market Report’ also notes that 75% of global revenue will come from media rights and sponsorships. The total global revenue is expected to be $108.4 million in 2021.

All of these increases are expected to culminate in clashes between streaming platforms as competition rises, and esports will be looking to engage with more mainstream industries in order to expand into new markets.
