Ex-Nevada Governor joins Resorts World Las Vegas board

Resorts World Las Vegas (RWLV), the US flagship property of Malaysian gaming giant Genting Berhad, has announced the appointment of former Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval to its Board of Directors. The move is part of a wider leadership overhaul following recent regulatory issues at the resort.

Sandoval, who served as Nevada’s 30th governor from 2011 to 2019, brings extensive experience in both government and the gaming industry. Prior to his tenure as governor, he held several high-profile positions, including Federal Court Judge, Attorney General of Nevada, and Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission.

His deep understanding of gaming regulation and economic development is expected to play a crucial role in RWLV’s future strategy. “We are thrilled to welcome Governor Sandoval to our Board of Directors,” said RWLV Chief Executive Alex Dixon.

Overhauling changes in RWLV leadership

As per Dixon, Sandoval’s leadership, vision, and extensive experience makes him an invaluable addition as Genting Berhad continues to expand its business on a global scale.

Sandoval expressed his enthusiasm for the role, highlighting the resort’s reputation for redefining luxury hospitality on the Las Vegas Strip. “I am honoured to join the Board and contribute to the strong foundation they have built,” he said.

His appointment follows a series of leadership changes at RWLV. In December, former MGM Resorts CEO Jim Murren was named Board Chairman, alongside ex-Nevada Gaming Control Board chair A.G. Burnett, former MGM and Caesars HR executive Michelle DiTondo, and Genting Berhad’s President, COO, and Executive Director Kong Han Tan.

This is no hidden fact that Las Vegas remains one of the world’s most popular travel destinations for gaming, drawing millions of visitors from the USA, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. With Resorts World Las Vegas strengthening its dominance in the luxury hospitality sector, the Strip is on the brink of a major transformation.

Expanding premium options for more value

Sandoval’s addition to the board marks a significant shift in the global tourism landscape. However, Resorts World Las Vegas wants to expand its premium offerings, in a bid to attract high-end travellers from key international markets such as Singapore, Malaysia, the UK, and the Middle East. Sandoval’s appointment could elevate the resort’s status even further.
