October promises to be a boisterous month for competitive gaming. Here’s the monthly what’s up!

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) kickstarts the month with $835,000 in prize money, taking the reigns from September’s top game Arena of Valor. ESL Pro League Season 16 is an offline Maltese CS:GO tournament which took place from the 31st of August to the 2nd of October. Part of the ESL Pro League and the Intel Grand Slam S-Tier series, it saw 24 teams dishing it out  for a prize pool of $835,000. It culminated in a showdown between Team Vitality and Team Liquid, with Team Vitality deploying an unbeatable strategy and bagging the $200,000 winner’s cup. The runner-up prize amounted to $85,000.

08/08 – 30/10: The International 11 (TI11), Dota 2

It’s that time of the year when Dota 2 fans from all over the globe get together for the most meta-disruptive event of the year. Occurring from the 8th to the 30th of October, this iteration of the International is bound to shatter all expectations. It will debut with the Last Chance Qualifiers from 8th to 12th October, followed by the Group Stage from 15th to 18th October 2022. For the Group Stage, twenty teams will be split into two equal groups, playing matches in a round-robin format.

The 16 teams that qualify will be heading to playoffs, which will be held at Suntec Singapore between 20th and 23rd October, 2022. The survivors will battle it out during the Finals at Singapore Indoor Stadium on 29th and 30th October 2022, where they will shed their blood for the Aegis of Champions, the legendary Dota 2 chalice.

As the prize pool of the International dynamically stacks up with player purchases during the Compendium season pass, it is hard to accurately put a finger on a final number. At the time for writing, it stands at a jaw-dropping $13,070,189. This year’s base starting prize was set at $1,600,000.

31/08 – 13/11: Intel Extreme Masters XVII, Rio Major 2022, CS:GO

Another CS:GO tournament will make its debut at the end of October. Organised by ESL, this bout forms part of the IEM and Intel Grand Slam series, taking place in Rio de Janeiro. 24 teams will be taking part across three different stages, against a $1,250,000 prize pool. The winner stands to claim $500,000 and qualify to IEM Katowice 2023.
