William Woodhams, CEO of Fitzdares, has announced that he will be stepping down this Friday after seven successful years leading the bookmaker. Known for his innovative approach and strong industry presence, Woodhams leaves behind a legacy of growth and prestige at Fitzdares, which proudly calls itself “The world’s finest bookmaker.”
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Woodhams shared his departure news saying: “BORING PERSONAL INFO: This Friday I’ll be stepping down as CEO of Fitzdares after 7 glorious years. After Xmas I choose to move on and I’m excited to sit on a few boards and put my bookie feet up. This sadly ends 200 uninterrupted years of my family’s involvement in racing. X.”
Woodhams took the helm at Fitzdares in 2018, bringing with him a wealth of marketing experience. Prior to his CEO role, he was the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) at fashion brand French Connection and previously held senior marketing positions at luxury conglomerate LVMH and Network Corporate Holdings.
Under his leadership, Fitzdares expanded its reach and reinforced its reputation as a premium bookmaker. His keen eye for branding and customer engagement played a significant role in shaping Fitzdares’ unique identity in the betting industry.
Although stepping down as CEO, Woodhams is not leaving the business world altogether. He will now focus on his roles as a Board Member at the marketing agency Marble and as an Advisory Board Member at givestar, a company specialising in charitable fundraising technology.
With decades of experience in marketing and brand management, his expertise will undoubtedly be an asset to these organisations; however, his departure from Fitzdares marks a significant moment for his family, ending two centuries of involvement in the horse racing industry.
The impact of Woodhams in the book-making industry has been well noted. His official response came from the Betting and Gaming Council’s official account and BGC Chair Michael Dugher welcoming his services to the sector. His leadership at Fitzdares helped brand the bookmaker a luxury betting experience – rich in heritage yet equipped with innovative technology.
As the company prepares for this leadership transition, Fitzdares has yet to announce his successor. However, Woodhams’ influence and strategic direction will likely continue to shape the bookmaker’s future.
