Flutter’s ‘Cash4Clubs’ initiative for grassroots sports

Flutter UKI has once again demonstrated its commitment to grassroots sports and community support through the launch of its flagship 2024 ‘Cash4Clubs’ programme. With a substantial £400,000 fund, 200 community sports organisations across the UK and Ireland will be eligible for grants of £2,000 each, aiming to enhance local sports facilities, purchase essential equipment, and promote increased participation in sports.

Empowering communities through sport and inclusion

Since its inception in 2008, ‘Cash4Clubs’ has contributed nearly £6 million to grassroots sports, supporting organisations like the London Wheelchair Rugby Club (pictured above) and Welcome House Hull’s refugee football team, Acorn FC. Last year alone, the programme enabled over 85 percent of grant recipients to expand their activities, reaching an additional 9,000 people. The programme plays a vital role in encouraging physical activity, breaking down barriers to sports participation, and fostering social cohesion.

The importance of these community sports clubs cannot be overstated. As Ian Brown, CEO of Flutter UKI, highlighted, “The success of Team GB at the Paris Olympics and Paralympics showcased the power of sport.” The Cash4Clubs initiative aligns with this vision, offering small clubs the opportunity to have a transformative impact on their communities.

This year, the programme places a special emphasis on clubs in economically disadvantaged areas, where participation in sports can serve as both a social and health equalizer. Dame Caroline Dinenage, MP, encouraged grassroots organisations to seize this opportunity, stressing the lasting positive effects on community well-being.

Partnering with Sported, a leading UK charity, Flutter aims to ensure that the funding reaches clubs with the greatest need. Sarah Kaye, CEO of Sported, noted that financial difficulties have increasingly limited access to sport, particularly for vulnerable groups, making initiatives like Cash4Clubs even more essential.

As grassroots sports clubs navigate post-pandemic challenges, the Cash4Clubs programme is a much-needed lifeline, helping to revive local sports and make lasting contributions to community health and inclusivity.
