GambleAware receives £4.5 million in cash donations during the first three quarters of its financial year

gamble aware logoGambling harm prevention foundation, GambleAware, has notified the public of £4.5 million ($6.1 million) in voluntary donations received from the gambling industry between April and December 2020.

The donations excluded regulatory settlements and additional donations, which was done on the request of the foundation. Additionally, GambleAware reportedly suggested a donation of at least 0.1% of one’s annual gaming yield (GGY) from companies that profit from gambling in the UK.

Following this request, reports indicated that the biggest contributors were Flutter Entertainment leading the donations with £874,000, Bet365 with £763,000, and William Hill who have donated £540,000 yet promise a total amount of £1.04 million for the 2020/2021 financial year.

Gamesys offered a hefty donation of £450,000, followed by Betway with £134,000, and 888 Holdings with £50,000. Other noteworthy donations include Videoslots with £30,000, and a pledge from Praesepe Holdings and Greentube of £85,500 and £61,000 respectively for the year.

GambleAware added that the £8.8 million received in regulatory settlements during the period was in line with the industry and the Gambling Commission. The charity has pledged that the donation will be reinvested into treatment projects for problem gamblers and research. The largest contributor was Betway with £5.8m, who were fined £11m in March due to an array of VIP failings.

Back in October 2020, research conducted by the GambleAware using data on the National Gambling Treatment Service (NGTS) found that only  3% of problem gamblers in the UK receive adequate treatment
