Genting Malaysia increases in the number of visitors

Genting Malaysia has seen an increase in the number of visitors since the resumption of operations on 15th June

Genting Malaysia Resorts World has finally resumed operations following strict lockdown measures imposed by the government in mid-March as part of the efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Genting Malaysia said that visitors for the first half of July covered 50% of the visitor numbers before the quarantine restrictions brought about by the pandemic.

VIP and mass market have both contributed to the recovery for Resorts World Genting Malaysia (RWG), even when only Genting Rewards Members are allowed to enter the property.

Citing a report by Asia Gaming Brief, analysts from CGS-CIMB stated that the majority of casino visits in usual conditions are the Rewards Members, and that 80 percent of the RWG visitors are locals, capturing the VIP segment since travel abroad is still prohibited, thus allowing swift recovery for RWG.

“Typically, some 70-80 percent of Resorts World’s visitor arrivals are locals, and there has been pent up demand for domestic tourism and gaming post-MCO,” the report stated.

RWG had increased their room offerings for the reopening as they went from 2,000 to 5,000 in the recent weeks. However, Genting Sky Casino and Genting Grand Casino has opened and are now operating at a 50 percent capacity to ensure social distancing measures.

Meanwhile, sales forecast for companies like Berjaya Sports Toto have recovered to 75 percent of the level before the suspension of operations. The firm said recovery may be seen towards the end of the year.
