iGaming Operators must be “agile and adaptable” in the face of COVID-19
KPMG Malta’s report show operators are taking appropriate action to mitigate player’s increased risk during isolation
During an online conference dedicated to operating a betting business in the gaming EU market in the time of the Covid pandemic, Valentina Franch, Assistant Manager at KPMG Malta stresses the point of encouraging responsibility in gambling in the ‘Face of COVID-19’. She believes that now is the time for operators to create industry trust by focusing efforts on responsible gambling.

Gambling-related harm can occur in all types of venues both online and land-based. The online gambling industry in particular, has a huge weight on society at the moment as most means of entertainment are shut down.
Franch claims that “The sector must act with the most responsibility in relation to advertising and monitoring customer spends and any signs of gambling addiction.
“We know there have been many donations from the industry, but this is the right time to demonstrate responsibility from the industry and the opportunity to realign that perception that often comes when one thinks about the gaming industry.”
in conclusion Franch advises operators to “realign their businesses,” as now they have to be “agile and adaptable.” Her words are aimed to mitigate gambling-related harm, and to increase the protection of the vulnerable.
