India emerges a key driver of global gaming growth worldwide

The online gaming industry globally has been soaring over the years, with one of the fastest-growing markets being in India. In 2023, India emerged as the biggest gaming market globally, with 568 million players.

Technological advancements

India’s smartphone market grew three percent in the past quarter, and the country registered a record-breaking 9.5 billion gaming app downloads in 2023. Both factors contribute to and bring about the revolutionary reach of the online gambling market in the country. Moreover, India’s smartphone users are on an upward trajectory, with currently at least one billion users.

The online phenomenon has swiftly engulfed the traditionally physical games. These include games like Teen Patti and Rummy, originally associated with a physical space, being played online in India and globally.

The advancement and rapid adoption of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology have also helped in the growth of India’s online casino games. A growing number of players are currently transitioning into using cryptocurrency as a payment method because it involves lower fees, faster transactions, and anonymity.

In the near future, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and virtual reality (VR) are also going to be big players in the online gamling industry. While they are being incorporated into the space, there is still huge potential to unlock. This involves but is not limited to using AI, ML, and VR to help provide gaming suggestions to players, serve as customer service support, among others.

User feedback and protection

User feedback remains instrumental in improvement and will drive better growth for both the Indian and global markets. Online platform operators will benefit from implementing changes as required to ensure a better user experience. It would help create a global gaming industry that features better graphics, more immersive experience, among others.

Apart from the need to incorporate user feedback, the industry requires a strong emphasis on consumer protection standards and responsible gaming measures. As interest in the industry rises, so does the need to come up with better measures to prevent gambling addiction.

As the industry looks to a brighter future, a lot still depends on the gambling laws in India. Operators and players are on the lookout for any regulations that might be introduced by the government. This ultimately impacts new developments on how people will experience gaming in the country.
