International Entertainment to invest $25.5 million in New Coast Hotel Manila revamp

Hong Kong-listed International Entertainment Corp has announced a PHP1.47-billion ($25.5 million) renovation project for its New Coast Hotel Manila property. The upgrade aims to enhance hotel facilities and expand the casino’s gaming capacity.

Major upgrade to boost casino and hotel facilities

International Entertainment’s subsidiary, New Coast Leisure Inc, signed a construction contract with Kimberland Construction Inc on 14 February. The deal covers extensive refurbishment, including redesigning interiors, upgrading utilities, and improving safety systems.

The company stated that the renovation would “maintain the hotel in good service and condition” while modernising its infrastructure. The project will also create additional gaming space on the casino’s ground floor.

Casino expansion: More tables and slot machines

With the renovation, the casino at New Coast Hotel Manila will increase its gaming tables from 80 to 110. The number of slot machines will rise significantly, from approximately 500 to over 920.

International Entertainment believes that expanding its gaming capacity will drive higher revenue. The company stated that the revamp would improve customer experience and attract premium visitors to both the casino and the hotel.

In September 2024, International Entertainment announced plans to invest between $1 billion and $1.2 billion in developing an integrated resort in Manila. The commitment was part of its agreement with the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (PAGCOR).

The firm took over casino operations at the New Coast Hotel Manila in May 2024 under a provisional gaming licence from Pagcor. The ongoing renovations are in line with its long-term strategy to strengthen its presence in the Philippines’ gaming and hospitality sector.

Financial challenges and growth strategy

Even with its expansion plans, International Entertainment posted a loss of HKD132.0 million ($17.0 million) for the year ended 30 June 2024. Nevertheless, the company is confident that the casino expansion and hotel renovations will enhance revenue streams in the future.

The renovation project is expected to enhance the hotel’s overall quality and modernise outdated amenities. The company emphasised that upgrading facilities would improve guest satisfaction and support its broader business objectives.
