Jeju Island: Cat and mouse chase continues after authorities recover $10.9m lost

After recovering $10.9m of the $13.4m that suddenly disappeared at a casino on Jeju Island, authorities amplify the search to bring those responsible to justice

Jeju island cash recovered On Monday 4 January 2021, Landing International had discovered the sum of  KRW14.56bn ($13.4m) store in Jeju  South Korea had suddenly disappeared. The casino investor assured they immediately reported the incident to the police and were investigating the incident, specifically the perpetuator. Thankfully, authorities have recovered roughly KRW12bn ($10.9m) in cash which was under the care of a 55-year old Malaysian female executive who had fled the scene and cut off all contact.

The KRW12bn ($10.9m) in cash recovered formed part of the KRW14.56bn ($13.4m) that had been reported missing by Landing International.

The person responsible for the vanished money had personally removed the money from the casino in question’s safe on Jeju Island, complying with security procedures. The executive then reportedly went on vacation towards the end of last year and cut off all form contact.

Authorities intervened, eventually uncovering about KRW4bn at the employee’s previous home, and KRW8.15m from the casino’s VIP room safe.

The hunt for the women and her accomplices, one said to be a Chinese national of around 30 years of age and another unidentified individual, is ongoing. Authorities also haven’t ruled out other potential accomplices.

Police have commented:

All the retrieved money is cash in new 50,000-won bills. The possibility of other accomplices being involved in the theft cannot be ruled out.
