Kenya: Betting emerges as top Google search for October

These results come after attempts by the Kenyan government to streamline the industry by terminating a number of online betting licences

Betting was the most searched word by Kenyans on Google’s search engine in October.
This comes after the government’s attempts to shape the industry by terminating the licences of a number of online betting firms. The top search queries in Kenya were online gaming sites such as Betika, Livescore, Odibet and Forebet. Moreover, on the day this was announced, SportPesa also declared that they will be continuing their operations after a 16 month lay off due to a number of scandals involving money laundering.

However, in less than 24 hours after Sportpesa announced their return to the market via Twitter, the Betting Control and Licencing Board (BCLB) suspended Milestone Games Limited which was to take up operations under the Sportpesa brand name.

Lastly, the English Premier League and the World Teacher’s day ranked second and third respectively in the top SportRadarOneFootballqueries in Google’s search engine trends. The English Premier League table, English Premier League results, Arsenal news, Chelsea news, and Manchester United featured as well amongst the search queries, with Manchester United vs Chelsea and Everton vs Liverpool among the most searched fixtures on Google.
