Key eSports events in 2025 and predictions from Sergii Mishchenko

There is no doubt among the iGaming community and its leaders that esports is about to blow up. Sergii Mishchenko (pictured), CEO of GGBET UA, has highlighted the key events in the esports calendar this year for SiGMA News. 2025 promises to be a year to remember, and will see new opportunities for growth in the betting industry.

GG.BET is a leading esports brand, and the winner of the SiGMA Best Esports Operator 2023 award, among others. With a presence in the UK, Ukraine and other European countries, the brand is actively working on developing its esportsbook thanks to the team’s profound expertise in this area.

Updates to leading game ecosystems

With significant changes and important events on the horizon, Sergii is confident that 2025 could be one of the most exciting years in esports history. First and foremost are some key updates to the ecosystems of a number of major games:

  • This year will see new rules applied in Valve’s Counter-Strike 2, which will have a serious impact on tournament operators, like BLAST Premier, a former partner of GG.BET, and ESL.
  • Meanwhile, Riot Games will completely overhaul League of Legends’ competitive system, introducing two new leagues: the LTA and LCP, as well as organizing its third international tournament.
  • One of the most hotly anticipated CS2 events, the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025, will be taking place this year, marking the first time in 7 years that the US has hosted a CS2 major.

Sergii also mentions the new Dota 2 BLAST Slam tournament series, which debuted successfully at the end of last year, peaking at 200,000 views over the course of a single match. The second event in the series will be taking place in February with a $1 million prize fund.

The first Olympic Esports Games

Among the most significant events taking place in 2025, Sergii highlights the first Olympic Esports Games, which will be one of the largest events organized by the IOC to date. According to Sergii, “This initiative is one of the most important steps in terms of esports being accepted on the world stage as an actual sport. This will open up new horizons for the industry, as it will attract an even wider audience, as well as more investment.”

The CEO of GGBET UA expects that the games will include the most exciting and long-standing esports: “Although the list of participating games hasn’t been confirmed yet, I imagine that games such as FIFA, League of Legends and iRacing will be included.”

2025 will be a year of innovation

In terms of his predictions for 2025, Sergii believes it will be a year of innovation. Esports will continue to strengthen its position as one of the most dynamic industries, creating new opportunities for partnerships and growth in the betting sphere. The development of mobile games such as Mobile Legends, PUBG Mobile and FreeFire, which have already attracted significant interest from audiences at tournaments in Saudi Arabia, will play a special role in this regard.

He also added that the growth of esports around the world will reach South Asia and MENA, regions which are set to become major players on the global arena. What’s more, with the development of analytical data and AI, bettors can look forward to opportunities to make more accurate predictions, and therefore place more accurate bets, Sergii concludes.
