Macau’s total GGR in August fell by 94.5% year-on-year to 1.33 billion MOP, almost the same as July’s total revenue
According to data released by The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (hereafter called as the DICJ), Macau’s gambling industry has been severely hit by COVID-19, and total gambling revenue has fallen by more than 90% for five consecutive months. Among them, July fell by 94.5% year-on-year to 1.34 billion MOP.
Macau and the Guangdong Provincial Government of China have responded to individual free travel visas. Since August 12, the free travel endorsements for residents of Zhuhai, China have been restored.
Zhuhai is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province of the People’s Republic of China, a special economic zone established by the State Council, and a core city on the west of the Pearl River Estuary. Also, with the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge in 2018, Zhuhai has become the only Pearl River Delta city in Mainland China that borders Hong Kong and Macau.
Since August 26, free travel throughout Guangdong Province has been resumed. And on September 1st, visas to Macau within the scope of Guangdong Province were issued. In 2019, the number of tourists to Macau was 27.9 million, of which 46.8% are from individual free travel visa.
