Macau records more than 28,000 visitors on Grand Prix opening day

Macau Grand Prix practice day, November 20, saw the highest registered number of arrivals for the past nine months

According to the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) press release, Macau recorded 28,000 arrivals on the first day of the Macau Grand Prix. This figure is the highest number of arrivals registered for the past nine months.

The Macau Special Administrative Region Government had previously taken the decision to launch the “Tour Macao Carnival” to showcase how Macau is a safe destination to travel. The Carnival event was not the only occasion to happen during this time as Macau involved a number of other events such as the Macau Food Festival, the Macau Grand Prix and other activities to involve tourists, which include the Macau Touring Car Cup, Greater Bay Area GT Cup and the Macau GT Cup.

These events are pivotal to the increase in the numbers of visitors to Macau, according to Macau Government Toursim Office Director – Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes. The number of arrivals, since the October Golden Week, have continued to increase and together with the Grand Prix and upcoming major events such as the 2021 New Year and Chinese New Year, the number of arrivals is projected to continue rising.

With the rise of visitors and Macau’s high number of casinos, the country’s gaming industry may Macausee a massive increase in revenue during these events as Macau’s land-based industry, described as the world’s biggest gambling hub, is considered to be a major tourist attraction.

On the other hand, there seems to be conflicting ideas as the health authority of Macau has decided to impose a 14-day quarantine rule on anyone travelling from certain areas in China such as Zhangjiang and Zhoupu town in Pudong New Area of Shanghai.

In addition to these, travelers will also be required to abide by the 14-day quarantine if they arrive from Dongjiang Port Area in Tianjin and Manzhouli city in Inner Mongolia as a result of local transmissions in those specific areas.
