MGTO reports a vibrant Q1 2023 for Macao

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has announced that visitor arrivals to Macao for the first quarter of 2023 have nearly matched the total number of visitors for the entire 2022.

MGTO Launches Second Phase of “Macao Treat” Promotion

The provisional figures released over the Easter weekend show that Macao welcomed approximately 4.96 million visitors, with 1.51 million of those coming from Hong Kong. Although this figure is significantly lower than the 39.4 million arrivals in 2019, it is an improvement compared to last year’s 5.7 million visitor arrivals.

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced the launch of the second phase of its “Macao Treat” promotion from 10 April to 30 June. The promotion offers a free return ticket to anyone who buys a bus or ferry ticket to Macao from Hong Kong and stays for at least one night. The first phase of the promotion, which ended on 31 March, saw the MGTO giving away 145,657 free tickets, including over 100,000 ferry tickets and more than 45,000 bus tickets.

As the agency explained, the objective of the initiative is “to attract overnight visitors from a wider variety of source markets and energise travellers’ interest in Macao for tourism and economic revival.”

The MGTO has collaborated with several service operators for the free ticket offer, such as Hong Kong – Macao Express, One Bus Hong Kong Macao, and Eternal East Cross-Border Coach Management Limited. Additionally, the ferry operators TurboJET and Cotai Water Jet are also part of this partnership.
