Nagasaki IR project launches RFP to find casino partner

The race for the location of Japan’s IR heats up as major cities compete to take on the big project

The scene for Japan’s integrated resort (IR) is starting to move forward. After numerous delays, Japan are expecting to draw up its final guidelines for integrated resorts which should be in place this year. Due to this, many cities are competing with each other and are preparing their own framework to take on the big project. The first city that has launched its Request-For-Proposal (RFP) is Nagasaki as it aims to identify the right casino operator for the IR.

The “Kyushu-Nagasaki Specific Complex Tourism Facility Establishment and Operation Project” is developing nicely with the local Nagasaki IR | SiGMA Newsgovernment announcing its RFP officially on the 6th January. However, operators who wish to be up for consideration must move fast as the deadline is at the end of January (28th January).

Masahiko Kunihiro, a member of the Nagasaki IR planning department explained that RFP guidelines are detailed and thorough, so there should not any problems regarding the completion of the process by the stipulated date. Applications will then be reviewed by the IR board and the finalists will be selected.

The next step is the submission of an area improvement plan to the Japanese national government, which would then need to be certified by hopefully the last quarter of 2022.

If all goes well, in the beginning of 2023 all of the paperwork should be wrapped up, the site for the IR should be chosen and construction should start.
