To capture Africa’s vibrant gaming market, NE Group has partnered with Kenya’s Betika to introduce its popular football-themed crash game, Defender, to audiences in Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The agreement allows Betika to offer an enhanced version of Defender, a game that has attracted fans since its launch in 2022 for its unique mix of strategy and real-time decision-making.
With football reigning as Africa’s most popular sport, this partnership is expected to attract a wide user base across four key African countries. Defender offers players an interactive experience, where they must cash out strategically before the opposing team scores. The enhanced version, rolled out earlier this year, introduces improvements in gameplay that make it more engaging and potentially rewarding for players.
Peter Stagles, Betika’s Group Chief Product Officer, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, saying, “We are thrilled to integrate NE Group’s Defender into our platform. Football is the number one sport in Africa, and this partnership enhances our already excellent offering.” This partnership aligns with Betika’s commitment to delivering engaging, high-quality content tailored to African audiences.
Strategic partnership for growth
For NE Group, this partnership with Betika is part of a broader strategy to expand its footprint in international markets. By leveraging Betika’s established platform in Africa, NE Group can directly connect with millions of football fans in the region, tapping into the continent’s growing interest in interactive and sports-themed games.
Africa’s gaming industry has shown steady growth in recent years, driven by increasing internet access and mobile phone usage. By introducing Defender to new African markets, NE Group not only strengthens its presence but also positions itself as an innovator in the gaming space, catering to culturally relevant interests.
Building momentum through strategic moves
The Betika partnership follows a series of significant steps by NE Group aimed at enhancing its offerings and operational efficiencies. In June 2024, NE Group teamed up with Sporting Solutions to integrate advanced odds and risk management tools into its sportsbook platform. This collaboration has enabled NE Group to deliver smoother, more efficient betting experiences, further solidifying its reputation as a leader in the iGaming industry.
Moreover, in May 2024, NE Group appointed Vishal Vijay Zend as Head of Product, a move that signals the company’s commitment to driving innovation within the sector. Zend’s expertise will be instrumental in developing new solutions that enhance user experiences, as well as optimising NE Group’s existing gaming products.
The partnership with Betika marks a pivotal point in NE Group’s African expansion plans. By delivering locally resonant, football-themed content, NE Group aims to build a strong brand presence and attract a diverse, football-loving audience. With continued focus on innovation and strategic collaborations, NE Group is well-positioned to meet the demands of Africa’s dynamic gaming landscape and establish itself as a preferred name in the region.
