Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has appointed seasoned gaming executive Mike Dreitzer as the new Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB). Dreitzer will take over the role following the resignation of current Chairman Kirk Hendrick, who is stepping down at the end of the current legislative session on 22 June 2025.
Kirk Hendrick, who announced his resignation earlier this year, described the leadership handover as smooth and expressed full support for Dreitzer’s appointment. He highlighted a professional bond dating back nearly 30 years, when both worked at the Nevada Attorney General’s Office.
Hendrick said, “Mike and I have shared a strong working relationship since our time in the Attorney General’s Office. I welcome his appointment and look forward to a seamless transition.”
Mike Dreitzer brings over two decades of experience in gaming compliance, equipment supply and regulatory affairs. He most recently served as CEO of Gaming Arts, a Las Vegas-based gaming equipment supplier, which is currently in the process of being acquired by Merkur Gaming, subject to regulatory approval.
Prior to that, Dreitzer held key leadership roles including President of Ainsworth Game Technology North America and COO of BMM Americas. He also co-founded gaming content supplier G3. His public service record includes serving as a Deputy Attorney General for Nevada, where he represented both the NGCB and the Nevada Gaming Commission.
Governor Lombardo said, “Mike has an extensive background in gaming compliance and brings decades of industry experience to the role. I am confident in his ability to guide the Board through current and future challenges.”
Dreitzer’s appointment comes at a critical time for Nevada’s gaming industry. In February 2025, the state reported $1.22 billion in gaming revenue, a 9.3 percent drop compared to February 2024. The Las Vegas Strip saw an even sharper decline, with revenue down 13.8 percent year-on-year to $690.3 million.
Both slot machines and table games posted losses. Baccarat and blackjack were among the most impacted categories during the month.
Industry analysts cite various factors for the decline, including reduced tourism, changes in player behaviour and economic pressures.
With experience in both private sector operations and public legal service, Dreitzer is expected to prioritise oversight modernisation and adapt regulatory frameworks to reflect evolving market conditions.
The NGCB plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of Nevada’s gaming sector, enforcing laws and ensuring licensed operators meet strict compliance standards.
Dreitzer’s leadership is expected to support stability as the Board navigates current pressures and positions itself for long-term growth.
He will formally begin his role as Chairman following Hendrick’s departure in June.
