New Jersey’s gaming industry continues to show resilience, posting a total revenue of $536.6 million in April 2025 — a 5 percent increase compared to April 2024. The latest figures, released by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, highlight strong performance in the digital sector, particularly internet gaming, even as land-based casino and sports betting revenues declined.

Internet gaming surges again

Internet gaming was the standout performer for the month. Online casino operators reported $235.2 million in revenue, marking a 25.2 percent rise year-on-year. This segment continues to be a key growth driver in New Jersey’s gaming market.

Year-to-date, internet gaming revenue has reached $908.4 million — up 21 percent from the same period in 2024. This sustained digital momentum has become increasingly important as other verticals face ongoing challenges.

Decline in casino win

Traditional casino gaming in Atlantic City reported a dip in April. The nine casino hotels posted $211 million in total revenue, down 2.7 percent compared to $216.8 million in April 2024.

While the land-based segment remains an essential component of New Jersey’s gaming landscape, it continues to face competitive pressure from the growth of digital alternatives and regional gaming markets.

Sports betting falls further

Sports wagering saw the sharpest decline among the three main sectors. Combined gross revenue from casinos, racetracks, and their online partners fell to $90.5 million — a 14.8 percent decrease compared to April 2024.

Year-to-date, sports betting revenue has dropped 17.6 percent, highlighting ongoing volatility in this segment. Market shifts, seasonal fluctuations, and player behaviour trends could be contributing factors behind this continued drop.

Strong year-to-date revenue

Despite the sectoral declines, New Jersey’s total gaming revenue for the first four months of 2025 stands at $2.12 billion — a 3.1 percent rise over the same period last year. This growth is largely attributed to internet gaming, which continues to outperform expectations.

Gross gaming taxes collected in April totalled $59.8 million, bringing the year-to-date tax contribution to $234.9 million. These funds play a key role in supporting public programmes and state infrastructure.

Digital growth continues momentum

The April results follow a strong March, when New Jersey gaming revenue reached $546.1 million. That month also saw a 23.7 percent increase in internet gaming revenue, reinforcing the ongoing shift towards digital platforms.

In February 2025, total gaming revenue rose by 5.1 percent year-on-year to $484.8 million, again led by online casino activity. The consistent growth in iGaming across recent months highlights changing player preferences and the expanding role of digital solutions in the state’s regulated gambling market.
