New Jersey reopens Atlantic City Casinos on July 2

Health screening and the usage of face masks is strictly implied on all guests and employees

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy announced in a twitter post on Monday the reopening of Atlantic City’s casino and indoor dining resuming on July 2, both at 25% capacity, and horse tracks can resume operations for in-person betting on the same date.

Atlantic City’s nine casinos have been temporarily shut since March 16 and posted a gambling revenue decline by 67%, from $ 542 million down to $ 178.5 million, comparing the April and May numbers of this year and last year. Murphy also said the reopening of the gambling halls means “thousands of New Jerseyans can get back to work.”

Gov. Phil Murphy announced in a twitter post on Monday the reopening of Atlantic City’s casino and indoor dining resuming on July 2, both at 25% capacity.

Murphy strictly implies the usage of face masks to all guests and employees, and that they must undergo some level of health screening, with additional health and safety guidelines to be released “within the next several days”.

“If any visitor refuses to comply with these simple safeguards, they will be escorted out of the casino,” Murphy said. “We are not going to tolerate any knuckleheads trying to ruin it for those who want to enjoy themselves responsibly and those who need to get back to work, especially if those knuckleheads could be spreading Covid.”

The president of the hard Rock casino, Joe Lupo said the group is delighted for the reopening date and that Hard Rock was confidently planning to exceed whatever standards the state imposes. “Our air filtration is better than most hospitals,” he said.

“With 85% of our customers being rated, we can provide details on when the played, for how long, which beverage servers were in the vicinity, which room they stayed in, where they ate,” Lupo disclosing the casino’s player database that will help assist health authorities with any necessary contact tracing.

As of Sunday, New Jersey, with a population of 9 million citizens, has reported 12,870 known covid-19 deaths, and 169,142 known covid-19 positive cases since the outbreak on March 4.
