Sports bettors in New York spent a record $23.94 billion (€22.6 billion) on betting during the 2024–25 fiscal year, according to data released by the New York State Gaming Commission. This marks the highest annual sports betting handle ever recorded in both New York and the United States.
The total represents a 21.9 percent increase compared to the $19.64 billion (€18.6 billion) wagered in the previous fiscal year. Gross gaming revenue (GGR) also saw strong growth, rising 21.6 percent to $2.14 billion (€2.03 billion). The average statewide hold – the percentage of money operators kept – stood at 8.94 percent, slightly down from 8.98 percent.
FanDuel, owned by Flutter Entertainment, led the market with $9.2 billion (€8.69 billion) in handle and $969.8 million (€915 million) in revenue, posting a 10.54 percent hold. DraftKings followed with $8.6 billion (€8.13 billion) in wagers and $727.9 million (€686 million) in revenue, translating to an 8.46 percent hold.
Caesars ranked third, taking in $1.45 billion (€1.37 billion) in bets and generating $131.4 million (€124 million) in revenue. Other key operators included BetMGM with $1.71 billion (€1.62 billion) in handle and $121.4 million (€115 million) in revenue; Fanatics with $1.61 billion (€1.53 billion) in handle and $120.2 million (€114 million) in revenue; and Rush Street Interactive, which reported $582.7 million (€554 million) in handle and $39.9 million (€38 million) in revenue.
ESPN Bet, which did not report figures for March 2024, recorded $14.4 million (€13.6 million) in revenue from $234.9 million (€223 million) in wagers earlier in the year.
In March 2025 alone, New Yorkers wagered $2.44 billion (€2.29 billion), up 31.9 percent year-on-year and just shy of January’s all-time monthly record of $2.48 billion (€2.33 billion). Revenue in March reached $161.8 million (€152 million), a 6 percent rise compared to last year, though down from January’s peak of $247 million (€234 million).
For the first time since mobile sports betting was legalised in 2022, more than $1 billion (€937 million) in bets were placed every month in the fiscal year.
A total of $1.11 billion (€1.03 billion) in tax revenue will support education programs across the state, including $6 million (€5.6 million) for gambling education and treatment and $5 million (€4.7 million) for youth sports initiatives.
