OFDT partners with French gaming regulator

The French Observatory for Drugs and Drug addiction (OFDT) has entered into a partnership agreement with French gaming regulator L’Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ)

The goal of the partnership is to further research the ‘phenomena of addiction‘.

In a statement announcing the partnership, the ANJ said, “To maintain gambling in a sustainable perspective of recreational gambling and better protect players, it is essential to better understand the drivers of gambling behavior and the complex phenomena of addiction they produce.”

A central part of the agreement dictates that the funding of scientific studies on gambling addictions will partly come from donations of 0.002% of ANJ’s stakes. The scope of the partnership includes information on the interventions and methods on how to reduce excessive or pathological gambling and the protections established for minors were also specified.

Other information exchanges between the two entities include data on recreational gaming and connections between ADHD and mechanisms associated with addiction.

OFDT may also be invited by the ANJ to participate in the work of the advisory committee on the prevention of excessive gambling.
