PAGCOR insists on work-from-home arrangements for POGOs

‘Philippine offshore gaming operators  should be allowed to work from home so that PAGCOR regains at least half of its income from POGOs amid the enhanced community quarantine’

As President Duterte stepped up community quarantine in Luzon, the government ordered the suspension of all casinos and other gaming operations in Metro Manila amid the increasing threat of the COVID-19 in the country.

In the meantime Andrea D. Domingo, chairperson of the Philippine gaming regulator PAGCOR insists that employees of Philippine online gaming companies can continue to generate revenue for the government by working remotely.

On Saturday, PAGCOR said that it will provide 12 billion pesos to the government to assist in the prevention of this epidemic and push the Philippines forward to resume operations in the gaming industry. This can also raise more funds to help in the response of this novel outbreak. The agency earlier donated 2.5 billion pesos to the Ministry of Health (DOH).

Last year, online gaming alone generated 6.4 billion pesos in revenue for the government.

Andrea Domingo asked the government to allow casino and telephone betting agents to work from home and said that phone betting in casinos can largely attract experienced players, which will help to increase revenue. She added, ‘We will increase our income by 50% to 60% if workers can work from home and this money can be used to help those in need. ‘
