Pandemic resumption plan: Illinois regulators issue reopening guidelines

Some of these include wearing protective equipment and limited capacity in casinos

On Tuesday, Illinois regulators released a set of guidelines for reopening casinos in the state, focusing on social distancing protocols.

Although the instructions do not have a reopening date, operators are expecting to be able to get back to business as quickly as possible.

Marcus Fruchter, Gaming Board administrator said that the timing and conditions for such a resumption will be based upon public health guidance and metrics.

Casinos must provide employees with free personal protective equipment and daily health screenings.

Post signage, employees must also remind gamblers of the social distancing rules and ‘proper hand washing.’

The staff are also being asked to regularly disinfect all gaming equipment including dice, chips, cards and wheels of roulettes.

Marcus Fruchter, Gaming Board administrator said “The IGB is committed to the safe, fair, deliberate, consistent, and regulatory compliant resumption of casino gambling,

The timing and conditions for such a resumption will be based upon public health guidance and metrics, and will proceed within the framework of Governor Pritzker’s Restore Illinois plan.”

We’ve seen similar rules in casinos in Nevada where gambles got back to the resorts on the 4th of June.

These reopening guidelines are the latest sign to jumpstart gaming revenues. Operators are asked to provide a “Pandemic Resumption Plan”, which must be approved by the board before any sort of activity can resume.
