Pennsylvania gaming revenue leaps 162.7% in March reaching a new record high of $403.2m

Online and retail sportsbooks surged to second-highest monthly volume in state history

Pennsylvania casinos reported a 162.7% year-on-year increase for the month of March. This revenue amounted to $403.2m (£292.4m/€336.3m) and is comprised from online casinos, slots, sports betting, fantasy sports, video gaming terminals and land-based table games. This revenue has undoubtedly shattered past records.

PennsylvaniaIn March last year casinos saw the GGR reach $153.5m marking this year’s revenue as a significant uptick from last year’s. When compared to February this year, the revenue was also higher as in the previous month casinos generated $302.0m in revenues.

Valerie Cross, analyst for PlayPennsylvania.com said “The year-over-year gains in revenue are staggering,”

The pandemic-related shutdowns of the state’s retail casinos changed bettor behavior for the foreseeable future. This is evident as online casino gaming keeps setting records, even as brick-and-mortar restrictions are eased.”

Online and retail sportsbooks collected $560.3m, in bets, which is up 326.6% from the previous year. This revenue totalled together produced 10m in state taxes $587,047 in local share assessment. So far since their launch Pennsylvania sportsbooks have generated $506.7m in gross gaming revenue.

Dustin Gouker, lead analyst for PlayPennsylvania.com said that “March’s results show just how important the NCAA Tournament can be in Pennsylvania and elsewhere, giving a huge boost to sportsbooks at a time when football is dormant.’
